The West Greeley Conservation District will host a free small-acreage workshop from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at Island Grove Regional Park, 14th Avenue and A Street in Greeley. Participants can learn about steps that can be taken to prepare pastures for next year's growing season. The timing of weed control activities and how these relate to re-seeding also will be addressed. Another focus will be on the importance of planning next year's grazing to ensure adequate rest for pastures to maximize grass growth and minimize competition from weeds. Information on composting manure and putting earthworms to work also will be provided. West Greeley is one of 77 conservation districts throughout Colorado. To register for Saturday's program, e-mail ellen.nelson@wgcd.org, or call (970) 356-8097, ext. 3. www.greeleytribune.com/article/20090818/NEWS/908179976&parentprofile=search
